Bluff County Studio Art Tour/Sale to include Jon Erickson Oil Paintings April 26-28, 2024

Grab a map or the smart phone app and get ready for a beautiful drive with some amazing art April 26-28, 2024.

Over 30 artists will display their works in studios and gallery locations throughout southeastern Minnesota.

Jon Erickson (La Crosse, Wisconsin) will be displaying and selling his landscape oil paintings at location #19 on the event map. (Mississippi Mornings - half way between La Crescent, MN and Winona MN.

There is no admission for this engageing event which allows community members to see artists in their own environment and studio locations.

Jon will exhibit a variety of original oil paintings — many are plein air (painted in the outdoors).

2023 Between the Bluffs Plein Air Art Competition is Underway--Local artist Jon Erickon is painting in nature

The Between the Bluffs 2023 Plein Air Competition (https://betweenthebluffs.com/) features over twenty-five regional and national artists all competing for awards and recognition. Artists have two weeks to produce their works—all within a 15 mile radius of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Jon Erickson (www.Jonericksonartist.com) is one of the plein air artists scoping the region for new locations in the lush bluffland area of Wisconin and Minnesota. See his previous award-winning works here (click link).

“The beauty of our blufflands provides numerous opportunities for outdoor painting. My work is inspired by exploring Mississippi River vistas in the driftless region and remote emergent wetlands,” explained Erickson. More about local Jon Erickson here (click link).

Jon Erickson Will Showcase Favorite Nature Venues in Between the Bluffs Plein Air Competition

Sept. 24th and 25th, 2022 is the final events of the 9th annual Between the Bluffs Plein Air artist competition and Jon Erickson is an award-winning competitor. This year, Jon will be painting “in nature” at some of his most favorite coulee region locations in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

“I’m a local artist that appreciates the immense beauty of the coulee region,” explained Jon Erickson. “With this competition, over 30 artists will share my passion as we work to produce up to three paintings to enter in the competition.”

The event is open to the public. Following are details of the event:

Watercolor demonstration by local artist Bob Witte Saturday Sept. 17 at 8 am. Location: Goose Island, La Crosse. Meet at the South end of Goose Island by the boat launch. Artists “Quick Paint “Competition Saturday Sept. 24 at Grandad's Bluff in La Crosse. The public is welcome to observe the artists painting at the overlook area on Grandad's Bluff, La Crosse. Artists will compete to produce their work of art in a two hour window. Event begins at 10 a.m. and judging will be at noon with prizes awarded at 1 p.m.

The Gallery Art Show and Sale is the main event of the Plein Air Festival on Saturday Sept. 24 from 11am to 4pm and Sunday Sept. 25 from 10am to 3pm at Studio Gallery 1311 (1311 Market Street, La Crosse). Admission is free and the paintings from the competing artists will be on display. All of the paintings will be original works of art created in the previous two week period within a 15 mile radius of downtown La Crosse. Featured locations include La Crescent's skunk hollow wetlands, La Crosse city scapes, farms, rivers, bluff views, secluded coulees and other locations chosen by the artists. This is a rare opportunity to view beautiful bluffland scenery in an artist’s rendition. The public can meet the artists and their work is also for sale. Artists Jon Erickson, Julie Johnston and Gary Flynn featured together on Bluff Country Studio Art Tour April 22 - 24, 2022

Jon Erickson, Julie Johnston and Gary Flynn will host a combined artist tour event April 22 - 24, Winona MN. 10am - 5 p.m. daily. The Winona Location (1122 W Mark St, Winona, MN) will be part of the 36 location studio tour in the Bluff Country area of Minnesota.

Enjoy viewing the works of these two artists. Select works are also for sale. This event is free and open to the public.

Jon Erickson and Julie Johnston will showcase select original oil and pastel paintings. Gary Flynn will feature his unique artistic wood carvings.

Jon Erickson Receives Merit Award - Between the Bluffs Plein Air Competition 2021

Sept. 24, 2021 La Crosse, Wisconsin

Jon Erickson received a Merit Award for his original plein air oil “Ridge View Farm” in the regional plein air competition called Between the Bluffs. (www.betweenthebluffs.com).

Over thirty artists from the upper midwest competed and entered up to three original paintings all completed outdoors in “plein air.” They were required to paint at a location within the bluffs of Wisconsin and Minnesota.
